SEC
West Auburn 7-1, 11-1 (loss to Alabama) Alabama 6-2, 10-2 (losses to Arkansas and South Carolina) Arkansas 5-3, 9-3 (losses to Georgia, Auburn, and South Carolina) LSU 4-4, 7-5 (losses to North Carolina, Florida, Auburn, Alabama and Arkansas) Mississippi 3-5, 7-5 (losses to Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Tennessee, and LSU) Mississippi State 1-7, 4-8 (victories over Memphis, Alcorn State, UAB, and Kentucky)
East Florida 7-1, 10-2 (losses to Alabama and Florida State) South Carolina 6-2, 10-2 (losses to Auburn, and Florida) Georgia 5-3, 9-3 (losses to South Carolina, Florida, and Auburn) Tennessee 3-5, 6-6 (losses to Oregon, Florida, LSU, Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina) Kentucky 1-7, 4-8 (victories over Western Kentucky, Akron, Charleston Southern, and Vanderbilt) Vanderbilt 0-8, 1-11 (victory over Eastern Michigan)
SEC Title Game: Florida (11-2) over Auburn (11-2) If Auburn wins this game and Oklahoma loses to Nebraska they have a shot at the national title game but the Gators will be motivated to win the SEC title after failing on 08 and get revenge on an Auburn team that beat them in 06 and 07
Big Ten Ohio State 8-0, 12-0 Iowa 6-2, 10-2 (losses to Michigan and Ohio State) Penn State 6-2, 9-3 (losses to Alabama, Iowa, and Ohio State) Michigan 5-3, 8-4 (losses to Notre Dame, Penn State, Purdue, and Ohio State) Michigan State 5-3, 9-3 (losses to Michigan, Iowa, and Penn State) Wisconsin 4-4, 8-4 (losses to Michigan State, Ohio State, Iowa and Michigan) Northwestern 4-4, 8-4 (losses to Michigan State, Penn State, Iowa, and Wisconsin) Illinois 3-5, 5-7 (victories over Southern Illinois, Northern Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, and Minnesota) Purdue 3-5, 6-6 (losses to Notre Dame, Northwestern, Ohio State, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan State) Indiana 0-8, 4-8 (victories over Towson, Western Kentucky, Akron, and Arkansas State) Minnesota 0-8, 1-11 (victory over South Dakota)
The Iowa game is what decides the conference title, and the winner of that game most likely goes to the national title game unless Iowa loses in non-conference play to Arizona. I expect Ohio State to narrowly win but that game can go either way.
Big 12
South Oklahoma 8-0, 12-0 Texas 6-2, 10-2 (losses to Oklahoma and Nebraska) Texas A&M 6-2, 9-3 (losses to Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas) Texas Tech 4-4, 8-4 (losses to Texas, Colorado, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma) Baylor 2-6, 5-7 (victories over Sam Houston State, Buffalo, Rice, Kansas, and Kansas State) Oklahoma State 1-7, 4-8 (victories over Washington State, Troy, Louisiana, and Baylor)
North Nebraska 7-1, 11-1 (loss to Texas A&M) Missouri 4-4, 8-4 (losses to Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Texas Tech) Kansas 4-4, 8-4 (losses to Baylor, Texas A&M, Nebraska, and Missouri) Colorado 4-4, 6-6 (losses to California, Georgia, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska) Kansas State 2-6, 6-6 (losses to Nebraska, Kansas, Baylor, Texas, Missouri, and Colorado) Iowa State 0-8, 1-11 (victory over Northern Iowa)
Big 12 Title Game: Oklahoma (13-0) over Nebraska (11-2) This game could go either way, if Nebraska wins this shakes up the BCS title picture big time
ACC
Coastal Miami 6-2, 9-3 (losses to Ohio State, Clemson, and Georgia Tech) North Carolina 6-2, 10-2 (losses to Miami and Florida State) Virginia Tech 6-2, 10-2 (losses to North Carolina, and Miami) Georgia Tech 5-3, 8-4 (losses to North Carolina, Clemson, Virginia Tech, and Georgia) Duke 1-7, 3-9 (victories over Elon, Army, and Virginia) Virginia 1-7, 4-8 (victories over Richmond, VMI, Eastern Michigan, and Maryland)
Atlantic Florida State 7-1, 10-2 (losses to Oklahoma and Miami) Boston College 6-2, 10-2 (losses to Virginia Tech, and Florida State Clemson 5-3, 7-5 (losses to Auburn, North Carolina, Boston College, Florida State, and South Carolina) Maryland 3-5, 5-7 (victories over Morgan State, FIU, Duke, Wake Forest, and NC State) NC State 1-7, 4-8 (victories over Western Carolina, Cincinnati, East Carolina, and Wake Forest) Wake Forest 1-7, 3-9 (victories over Presbyterian, Duke, and Vanderbilt)
ACC Title Game: Miami (10-3) over Florida State (10-3) Finally the ACC gets the title game matchup they have been looking for since conference realignment. Miami will complete the season sweep in a hard fought game and win their first ACC title.
Pac 10 Oregon 7-2, 10-2 (losses to USC, and California) Arizona 7-2, 9-3 (losses to Iowa, Stanford, and Oregon) California 6-3, 9-3 (losses to Arizona, USC, and Oregon State) Washington 5-4, 7-5 (losses to Nebraska, USC, Arizona, Oregon, and California) Stanford 5-4, 7-5 (losses to UCLA, Notre Dame, Oregon, Washington, and California) Oregon State 5-4, 6-6 (losses to TCU, Boise State, Arizona, Washington, Stanford, and Oregon) UCLA 3-6, 3-9 (victories over Stanford, Washington State, and Arizona State) Arizona State 1-8, 3-9 (victories over Portland State, Northern Arizona, and Washington State) Washington State 0-9, 1-11 (victory over Montana State) USC 6-3, 9-3 (losses to Stanford, Arizona, and Oregon State, put at bottom because they’re not eligible for conference title)
Oregon wins the title due to their victory over Arizona, but Oregon State can shake it all up by winning in the Civil War the final week. That game could go either way. If the Beavers win, Arizona wins the title outright, Oregon State finishes second, and Oregon falls to fourth. So there is a lot riding on the last game of the season. USC can also shake things up by beating Arizona and having Oregon State beat Oregon. This will be an interesting race to watch, there are 6 teams with an honest shot (or 7 if you include USC).
Big East Pittsburgh 6-1, 8-4 (losses to Utah, Miami, Notre Dame, and Cincinnati) West Virginia 6-1, 10-2 (losses to LSU, and Pittsburgh) Cincinnati 5-2, 7-5 (losses to Fresno State, NC State, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Connecticut) USF 4-3, 7-5 (losses to Florida, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Miami) Rutgers 3-4, 7-5 (losses to North Carolina, Pittsburgh, USF, Cincinnati, and West Virginia) Connecticut 3-4, 7-5 (losses to Michigan, Rutgers, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, and USF) Syracuse 1-6, 4-8 (victories over Akron, Maine, Colgate, and Louisville) Louisville 0-7, 4-8 (victories over Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, Arkansas State, and Memphis)
Pittsburgh wins due to their victory over West Virginia but Connecticut is the wild card in this. They get the three main contenders (Pittsburgh, West Virginia, and Cincinnati) at home so the Huskies could very easily win the conference and if not have a big impact in the race. I have them knocking off Cincinnati and preventing a 3 way tie but if they lose to all 3 that likely allows West Virginia to win the title due to higher rank (unless the Big East has a really weird tiebreaker system).
Top Mid-Major/Independent Contenders Boise State 8-0, 11-1 (loss to Virginia Tech) TCU 7-1, 11-1 (loss to Utah) Notre Dame 9-3 (losses to Michigan State, Boston College, and USC) Houston 8-0, 11-2 (losses to Texas Tech, and UCF in CUSA title game) Utah 7-1, 10-2 (losses to Air Force and Notre Dame) Navy 10-2 (losses to Air Force, and Notre Dame) Middle Tennessee 7-0, 11-1 (loss to Georgia Tech)
I only listed teams with two losses or less. I believe that UCF will win the Conference USA, and Temple will win the MAC with 3 total losses. If Boise State beats Virginia Tech in the opener they have a great shot at appearing in the national title game. However, if both Ohio State and Oklahoma go undefeated if I predict the Broncos would still probably get shut out. With the voters it’s about what you have done lately, and voters wont care that Boise State blew out Virginia Tech and Oregon State in week 1 and 2 if Ohio State closes out by beating Iowa and Michigan, and Oklahoma closes out by beating a 1-loss Nebraska in the Big 12 title game. It’s the same scenario with TCU who I see losing once to Utah. I don’t think TCU makes it in if both Oklahoma and Ohio State go undefeated. It’s the same story if Alabama or Florida goes undefeated as well.
BCS Standings Ohio State Oklahoma Alabama Virginia Tech Boise State Florida Miami Iowa North Carolina Nebraska TCU Auburn Oregon Texas South Carolina Boston College West Virginia Utah Penn State Georgia Neither Alabama or Virginia Tech played in their conference title games. However, Alabama defeated both teams that played in the SEC title game (Florida, and Auburn) while Virginia Tech defeated #5 Boise State and their losses were to the #7 and #9 teams.
BCS bowl matchups
I read the rules and i’m pretty sure Pittsburgh gets the automatic bowl invite even though they have four losses which keeps a one loss TCU and a whole bunch of two loss teams out of the BCS. I hope i’m wrong, but a similar thing happened in 04 National Title Game: Ohio State (13-0) over Oklahoma (12-1) This is a matchup between two teams who made a bunch of title games over the past decade but only won one title each and both were known for falling short in the big game. These teams get a chance to start the decade right. I have to go with Ohio State in a close victory. The Buckeyes will be more tested having to play Miami in non-conference play, and having to beat Iowa on the road just to get here. Oklahoma beat Texas and Nebraska on neutral sites. This could go either way though, it would be a great title game matchup to start off the new decade.
Orange Bowl: Miami (11-3) over Iowa (10-3) This is the best matchup of the other BCS bowls, and this one could go either way. Miami has the more talented team and travelled a tougher road to get here. The ACC is the most top heavy conference in the nation in 2010. The Hurricanes will score a close victory and show the nation that The U is back to my dismay as a Gator fan.
Rose Bowl: Alabama (11-2) over Oregon (10-3) If this game was played earlier in the year i’d probably take Oregon to win it but at this point the Crimson Tide will be clicking on all cylinders. If they played in the national title game i’d probably pick them to win. I expect Alabama to win this one in a blowout.
Sugar Bowl: Boise State (12-1) over Florida (11-3) The BCS will hopefully get it right this time around, and match these two teams up like it should have happened last year. I think Boise State will come out in this game looking to make a statement while Florida will be a little bit more complacent. Therefore I expect the Broncos to score the upset and make a strong case to finish the season #2.
Fiesta Bowl: Virginia Tech (11-2) over Pittsburgh (8-5) This one will be ugly. I’m hoping I read the rules wrong and TCU or Nebraska could be playing in this game. If not Virginia Tech will win this one in a rout. If West Virginia made this game it would be a little bit closer but I still think Virginia Tech would win the game by a lot. The Big East just isn’t that strong this year.
